What do we want in our artists?
Who do we want our rappers to be?
We want them to be what they say they are, the best of the best and worthy of the title. I know we’re all upset over these quote-on-quote mumble rappers …yet we seem to have accepted the category as ok to compete in our industry. 🙄
We keep complaining that this trash, this garbage, is out here and we don’t listen to Radio anymore because of it. Well, I’m not exactly with you there, I never really listened to the radio, so they aren’t to blame for that. They aren’t to blame for the mainstream bullshit that blasts in your ears either.
I say yours because
I have no idea what it is.
I can’t name those artists.
I can’t quote that music.
I don’t know those songs.
I can only subject my ossicles to euphonious verbiage. I’ve been stuck in my own head for years, according to other people. The truth is, it’s better in here. So why wouldn’t you join me and take control of your world as well? We deserve a better standard of public opinion on what gets elevated and added to the “pick from” categories.
“A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it.” The popular view has this trend of being the one that usually sucks and I’m left with fewer artists on my list, since I have to tune out this bullshit and stay away from mainstream to protect my brain cells from being subjected to the so called current hot shit out. I’m playing “Where’s Waldo” for worthy companions because ignorance prevails on the charts and we give in to it since we all need to be cool with what’s happening right now… And for what, to stay on top ourselves? This shit is not what cool is. This is definitely not what power is. This is giving in to weakness as opposed to challenging greatness with higher expectations of who gets put on.
WE make these people who they are. WE build this shit. WE put this shit on. WE follow this shit and fan base and blog and buy tickets and merch and support this bubblegum bullshit art for the purpose of peacock mating rituals.
STOP YOUR SHIT!
What’s in my recently played right now? Ed Sheeran, Musiq Soulchild, Sam Smith, The Rap God, Keyshia Cole, Yelawolf, Chris Webby, Talib Kweli, Black Star, Tenacious D and most recently added, Ty’Ron. That’s just a random taste; I’m not making rated lists nor do Igaf about who I didn’t mention in this snippet.
THE POINT…
Is that I just can’t understand where the bullshit is coming from. It feels like the people picking the leaders must be these kids out here OD’ing on opioids and lacing weed with fentanyl. I don’t know where your head is, I can’t relate. All I can do is support a healthy sound and make a move to replace and eradicate that nonsense from the future of my future children. They need better choices, meaning they need ALL of the selectables to improve. Elevate the available options.
It’s Elani, btw.
